Boating journalist Mike Westin has been sailing for 40 years, progressing from a sea scout to a sailing instructor. At 16 he became an apprentice on tall ships and then first mate. He went on to spend one and a half years in the navy. He has sailed in many interesting places around the world, including a year and a half's stay in the South Pacific aboard his own boat.
Oliver Solanas Heinrichs was born in Barcelona and has been in touch with the ocean since childhood. He was Vice-president of the Spanish cruising association (ANAVRE) and representative for several international associations on the island of Fuerteventura. He has been involved with sailors and the Spanish government for several years and periodically assists at conferences and boat shows. For the last few years he has worked as a safety officer and Spanish press contact for the prestigious ARC. He is founder of 8islas, a sailors platform that, based on connections on the islands offers their help to the sailors.
He has been on the Canary Islands since 1996 and lives on his boat Islander, an Amel Kirk.
8islas is a sailors platform which assists sailors in the Canary Islands through the different associations it represents, such as the OCC, ANAVRE, TransOcean and the Seven Seas. The company also actively helps with environmental issues.It is in constant contact with the marinas, government, and the sailing comunity.
